Twenty years after Chernobyl, the public does not really have a synthetic vision of the huge implications and meanings of this disaster. The project Chernobyl Forever
encouraged me to propose a synthesis in two large parts to go with the DVD book offered by the instigator of the projet and the artists, scientists, designers, and writers who offered their aid.
The first party (chapters 1 to 3) offers a statement and a viewpoint : The statement tells about the amount of contamination of the alimentary chain and of the organisms of the population living the contaminated territories and gives an idea of the catastrophic situation of the health of the children, which is getting worse with the years passing ; The viewpoint is about the intensity of the fallout compared to the ones measured in an area close to Nagasaki which received the “black rains” after the explosion on August 9th 1945.
The second part (chapters 4 and 5) tells the story of an independent company working to take care os the radioprotection of the children, the most vulnerable to the body contamination due to Chernobyl fallout. It is about BELRAD Institute, from Minsk, Belarus, definitely bound to the great personality of its founder, Vassily Nesterenko. And it is, since April 27th 2001, about the french association Enfants de Tchernobyl Belarus, that I'm honored to preside since March 2010. Our association brings to BELRAD a financial support without which theInstitute would have disappeared.
We are thankful and honored for having been chosen as cooperator with the association Photographisme for the adventure Tchernobyl Forever.
Yves Lenoir, president of the association Enfants de Tchernobyl Belarus.
